Preston Academy, the most prestigious private boarding school ever to be erected in the great land of opportunities, New York. To any irregular visitor, this school seems as successful and picture perfect as its reputation amongst all the most sultrily rich families across the states, many of whom can’t even may their way in. But to a teacher or especially a student, even to a parent who’s had to deal with their child’s actions and repercussions, the school is hardly a school—that is to say, you would think Preston Academy would be all about academics and upholding moral conduct and what not, the teachers with invisible whips that hardly ever need exercise because of the firm hand all students receive. Well, if that is what you would think, then you’d be wrong.
Preston Academy is a safe haven for all the rejects of the wealthy, the partiers, the druggies, the assholes, and the sluts. Sex, alcohol, and many forms of illegal substances are all very routine here, and the only thing keeping teachers from up and leaving this hopeless cause is the money these teen’s parents dish out to keep them satisfied. But even at Preston—no, especially at Preston—amongst all the defected celebrity and heirs of fortunes, there is a group of elite students who are pretty much the Gods of the school. They call all the shots, they do anything that comes to mind, no matter what the cost or who’s the loss. They, are the A-Listers.
Ryan Jacobs, the emperor of all players. Throughout his years at Preston, Ryan was that guy. If you can’t picture that guy, try thinking of the quarterback of the school football team, the hottest guy in the band playing out of their garage down the street, the coolest boy with all the right lines and all the right clothes, and then add a splash of Orland Bloom, Matthew Cohen, and Jamie Johnston—that’s pretty much Ryan Jacobs and his magnetism to the entire female population, in a nutshell.
Courtney Jacobs, the female equivalent of her older brother, serenaded in a whole lot more bitch. Courtney was basically the ringleader of Preston Academy, and she always had been—even before her senior year started. Practically bred to be envied, Courtney had just about every straight man in school lusting after her—and even, at one point, a not-so-straight one—and will continue to do so, even after graduation.
Hayley Parker, the right hand of the goddess that pretty much is Courtney, the two have been best friends for just about as long as they were potty trained. Not as biting as her other half, Hayley was always seen as the all knowing, and the informer of the middle Jacobs, though with her own interests and styles to boot.
Samuel VanderGraff, the popular guy who never thrived to be popular. The writer and the artist overall, Sam had his fair share of female relations during his time at Preston, from former bestie Kate Summerland all the way to the Queen Bee Jacobs, if you call casual fucking a relationship at all. Yet come junior year, Sam found a new kind of excitement in old friend and fellow A-Lister, Ed Dunst.
Amy Beaton, the most sensible of all the A-Listers, ever the glue trying to hold the precious icon of envy to the school together. The more athletic type, Amy was never anything like Courtney or Hayley, but that didn’t but any damper to her reputation, or to her love life, for that matter. Smart girls are more precise in the best ways.
Greg Palladino, half brother Hayley, and the only man to capture Courtney’s heart for more than a week at a time. Just like any other male at Preston, especially among A-Listers, Greg had his fair share of hook-ups and breakdowns. But could what he has with Courtney actually be the thing, the best he’ll ever have, the one thing he strives to hold on to?

Another year roles around, and Ryan’s off to college while the majority of the A-List moves forward into their fourth and final year—and their most tragic yet. Ever consider the fact that the two wonder Jacobs might have another little sibling subconsciously hungry for the spotlight? Well, they did. Coming into his junior year, Jonah Jacobs is feeling even more pressure to live up to the standards his elder siblings have set, and walking in on his girlfriend in a not-so-compromising position—with another female—was pretty much the last thing he needed. No one expected a gun. No one expected to death. No one, not Kate Summerland, Ashley Johnson, or Ed Dunst, and least of all not Courtney or Ryan, saw this big break coming.
Senior year comes to a close for the most prized of the A-List, and for the first time, they cannot wait to get away from the school they once thought of as a castle to which they held the thrones. Suddenly, Hayley is off to Greece without a word or location, where Ryan transferred and is living with his first serious girlfriend and taking classes. Courtney’s older brother encourages her to join him Aegina, without the knowledge the Amy and Sam have also venture to the island for actual school purposes. It should go without saying—but I’ll say so anyway—that this small section of A-Listers all reunite in Europe, and even through the drama, tension, and painful memories, thus begin their freshman year of college, back at the bottom of the food chain, but working their way to the top of the social castle once more…
